Mr. Andreas Bluethner

Director of Nutrition of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USA

Andreas Bluethner is the Director of Nutrition for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He is currently leading an update of the foundation's nutritional strategy. Andreas is also leading the inter-foundation collaboration on nutrition.

Prior to the founding, Andreas was Director of Food Fortification and Partnerships for BASF SE, a leading chemical company, micronutrient manufacturer and active partner of global fortification programs and players for decades. Prior to BASF, Andreas worked with the UN, the German government and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). Andreas holds a doctorate in international economics and human rights law from the University of Mannheim and a degree in business administration from Robert Bosch, Stuttgart. He has also served as a mentor to social entrepreneurs around the world as Ashoka Globalizer, as a founding board member of WFP Innovation Accelerator and as a member of the Listo board. He has worked as a permanent lecturer on food and nutrition security, trade and human rights for the University of Mannheim and the European Business School in Wiesbaden.
